Client Version Checking
Tuesday Sept. 2, 2008

Because of the decision to keep the old version of Citrix active beyond its end of life support, we have a problem that affects the entire enterprise, and we need everyone's assitance to make this as smooth a transition as possible

In order to successfully move forward with the new Citrix client, we need to remove all vestiges of the old client, v6.4. This client is so far removed from the MSI which we are installing, that the install has no way of upgrading the client, and instead installs the new client over the top of the old one. This causes huge problems with client access, printing and other features that Citrix tries to deliver. In order to remedy this situation, we have to undergo certain steps:

  1. The Managed Desktop Team (MDT) will be removing the old Citrix client group from all LYNX workstations this week, which will leave most LYNX PC's without a Citrix client.
  2. Customers desiring the Citrix client will be prompted upon the next login to install the client, which will be offered to them automatically. Just follow the prompts and take all defaults to install the client.
  3. The Citrix Web Interface server will do a cursory version check each time the clients login to the system, just to ensure that all clients are properly installed.

Once these workstations are brought up to date, it will be the responsibility of the Web Interface servers to ensure that clients are brought up to spec.

There will certainly be systems that do not undergo the uninstall process cleanly, and they will require a visit to the PC in order to manually remove the software. In most instances, obliteration of the user profile (local, network and TSProfile) will generally remove the obstacles that prohibit the installation of the new client. We will keep everyone up to speed as we move through this process.
